Cannabis Drinks Proliferating Across Colorado

November 12, 2019 Guest User

Beer and Seltzers are Aimed at Pleasing Every Palate

By Natasha Lovato

Now that the state is moving and grooving in the world of cannabis, many possibilities have opened up, especially when it comes to drinks. Hemp, THC and CBD beer and seltzer options are proliferating across the state.

Although THC products can only be sold in dispensaries, drinks with CBD or hemp are found in grocery stores and elsewhere.

Whether you enjoy the psychoactive effects of THC or the potential health benefits of CBD and hemp, there is a drink out there for you. Regardless of you experience with cannabis, drink responsibly, just as you should when consuming alcohol.

Colorado law prevents THC and alcohol from being used in the same product, but you can still enjoy cannabis-infused beer. Ceria Brewing introduced dealcoholized Belgian Style White Ale with 5 milligrams of THC last December. Because of its successful launch, the Arvada-based company will release cannabis beers in lager and IPA styles within the next few months.

A couple other breweries jumped in on the cannabis train as well, albeit without THC infusion. New Belgium included hemp in its IPA, a 7% ABV beer dubbed The Hemperor.

Sparkling waters are spreading around Colorado stores and dispensaries as well, appealing to a wide range of audiences. Many are gluten free, low calorie, low carb and organic.

Left Hand Brewing ventured from its beer roots, offering a CBD-infused sparkling water named Present, which is available in pure, lime and blood orange flavors.

DRAM produces CBD sparkling waters with “adaptogenic” properties, using herbs that are supposed to make the body adapt to stress. Flavors include gingergrass and lemongrass.

THC seltzers Oh Hi and Phyx are found only in dispensaries because of their THC content and while they both sound similar, there are varying THC amounts to help you find the appropriate drink.

Phyx, produced by Spherex, developed a technology to homogenize THC oil into carbonated and flavored water, which allows the 2 milligrams of THC to take effect almost immediately unlike most edibles that take time to get into the digestive system.

Oh Hi, co-owned by Matt Vincent, who is also one of the owners of Ska Brewing in Durango, offers doses of THC up to 10 milligrams per drink in a can you’ll be able to take on your adventures throughout the state.

Whether you’re looking for flavor, medicinal properties, something low in calories, gluten-free or varying levels of THC, the Colorado market has options that will quench your thirst without the threat of an alcohol-like hangover.
