The best events of the week all over Colorado

May 15, 2024 Steve Graham

More than a dozen chalk artists will be creating masterpieces live at the Chalk Lines and Vines festival in Aurora this weekend.

Relax at art and wine festivals, or challenge yourself with runs and bike rides

GET OUT OF TOWN

Chalk Lines and Vines

The fourth annual spring wine and chalk art festival is coming to the Arapahoe County Fairgrounds in Aurora on Saturday and Sunday. Sample wine, mead and cider from at least 15 Colorado crafters while watching live chalk artists create masterpieces.

The event also includes food trucks, live music, shopping with local vendors, croquet, sip ‘n paint activities and more.

VIP tickets are sold out for Saturday, but still available for Sunday, and include heavy hors d'oeuvres, wine by the glass, VIP parking, a private shade tent and private restrooms.

Rino Spring Bazaar

The final bazaar of the spring season comes to Zeppelin Station from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The outdoor market includes at least 80 small business vendors, live DJ, and a market bar with mimosas, cocktails, beer and N/A drinks. Entry is free, and bottomless mimosas or drink token packages also are available.

Run to the Shrine

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo hosts the annual Run to the Shrine fundraiser on Saturday and Sunday. It is a 4-mile run/walk course that curves through the zoo, climbs nearly 1,000 feet up to the Will Rogers Shrine of the Sun and drops back down into the zoo. It is the only time of year that people are allowed to travel to the Shrine of the Sun by foot.

Saturday’s run is sold out, but passes are still available for Sunday, and advance registration is required.

Garden of the Gods Art Festival

Just down the hill, the Garden of the Gods Art Festival comes to the Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site on Saturday and Sunday. The new art festival includes 125 juried fine artists and craftsmen from across the country, with pottery, jewelry, textiles, paintings, sculpture, glass art and more. The event also includes food trucks, live music, kids’ activities, and grabbing a bite from Colorado’s favorite food trucks.

Ride for the Pass

The Independence Pass Foundation in Aspen hosts its annual Ride for the Pass on Saturday. The recreational ride climbs two miles to Weller Lake, while the timed ride climbs 2,300 feet up to the Independence ghost town site at 10,800 feet.

Happy hour with Big Head Todd

Denver Beer Co will debut its "Bittersweet" blood orange IPA brewed with Big Head Todd and the Monsters at all its taprooms from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday. The beer supports Youth On Record, a charity dedicated to empowering young people through music.

The band will also be at the Littleton taproom during the event, and DBC will have ticket giveaways at all locations for the sold out Big Head Todd show at Red Rocks in June.

Save the date for Rose La La

Carboy Winery in Denver brings back its summer pink party on Friday, June 7. The celebration of rosé wines from 15 Colorado wineries includes pairings with food from executive chef Scott Hybbeneth, and runs from 5 to 8 p.m.

As always, please send us your events and announcements. We’re happy to share them. And enjoy your Colorado craft libations responsibly.
