Festivals galore and a new bakery on tap this week

March 27, 2024 Paul Johnson

Liver Down the River headlines the Big Wonderful in Winter Park on Saturday.

Check out beer and film festivals, and a reborn Pueblo favorite

GET OUT OF TOWN

Aspen hosts a film festival, Winter Park and Westminster host beer festivals, and a new bakery is opening in Pueblo. But there’s only one event where we are giving away a custom snowboard.

Propagate Yeast collaborated with Barquentine & Bruz Beers for a Biere de Garde exclusively for Collaboration Fest.

Collaboration Fest in Westminster

The Colorado Brewers Guild celebrates the camaraderie and creativity of Colorado’s breweries every year with Collaboration Fest. Brewers work together to craft beers that will only be poured at the festival.

This year’s brews include a smoked brisket stout from Monolith and A Bit Twisted; a Thai-inspired sour Kolsch from Denver Beer Co. and New Terrain; and a rice lager with cucumber and aloe from Jagged Mountain and Able Baker.

The festival is from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Westin Westminster, and a block of rooms is available for a special rate.

Also, we are giving away a custom snowboard, but you have to be at the festival to win.

The Big Wonderful in Winter Park

Winter Park hosts another beer festival on Saturday, and it also includes live bluegrass and a local craft market. The vendor village opens at 11 a.m., and the live music and beer start flowing at 1 p.m. The Deer Creek Sharpshooters play at 1, followed by Liver Down the River at 3 p.m.

Short films in Aspen

With the right streaming services, aficionados can watch nearly any feature film in the world. But short films are still harder to find, outside of the film festival circuit. Aspen Film experts curated a list of 70 short films to screen next week at the 33rd Oscar-qualifying Shortsfest.

The festival starts Monday with a youth forum. Then the Wheeler Opera House shows films Tuesday through Saturday, with additional discussion panels and post-screening receptions at local bars.

Stay of the week: Mollie Hotel

If you go to the film festival (or if you want some spring skiing), consider a stay at the new Mollie Hotel, a 68-room boutique hotel in the heart of Aspen. The decor is inspired by contemporary Scandinavian and Japanese design, and the food and beverage program is curated by the team behind the legendary Death & Co. bar. A lobby bar and restaurant has year-round outdoor seating, and there is also a rooftop spa pool and terrace bar.

Taste of the week: Trailglazers Bakery & Cafe:

Fuel & Iron opened last year as Pueblo’s first food hall, and its latest addition opens today. The Trailglazers Bakery & Cafe opens with a coffee bar, baked goods, charcuterie, a vegan grazing board, ice cream and milkshakes. Housemade breads, sandwiches and salads are planned in coming weeks. The business closed in December at its donut-centric Union Plaza location, but is making a comeback starting today.

As always, please send us your events and announcements. We’re happy to share them. And enjoy your Colorado craft libations responsibly.
