Craft Drinks Scene Roundup Dec 21-27

December 20, 2023 Paul Johnson

The Sugar Britches will play at the City Star Brewing solstice party in Berthoud.

By The Thirst Team

There is still plenty of festive fun on the Colorado craft libations scene, even on Christmas day, when you can escape your crazy uncle Hank or just hang out with some other folks at a couple of Colorado breweries.

Christmas openings

  • Over Yonder Brewing in Golden will be open from noon to 8 p.m. Monday, with concert streams, board games and beer. BYO snacks (or leftovers).

  • Bierstadt Lagerhaus in Denver’s RiNo neighborhood hosts the Orphans’ Christmas Party from 5 to 10 p.m. Monday with beer, games, music, and movies on the big screen. A limited menu will be served, and attendees are welcome to bring holiday cookies (and leftover ham to tip the bartender). A giant beer pong tournament starts at 8 p.m.

  • Green Mountain Beer Company in Lakewood hosts its eighth annual Christmas party and potluck from noon to 6 p.m. Monday.

Solstice celebration

City Star Brewing in Berthoud celebrates the shortest day of the year from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday with live music from Sugar Britches and City Star’s darkest beer of the year, the Widow Maker imperial stout (and several variants). Handmade flower crowns from the Flower Gypsy will be available for purchase, and hair tinsel service will be available in the taproom from 5 to 7 p.m.

Emo Nightmare Before Christmas

Starting at 5 p.m. Thursday, LUKI Brewery in Arvada will play Tim Burton's masterpiece “The Nightmare Before Christmas” while DJ Saddy Jeff spins emo classics. There also will be a hair coloring station, and a temporary tattoo station with bleeding roses, broken hearts, and barbed wire skulls. A flight of cookies and beer will be available for $20.

Grinchmas party

The Grinch will be grumping out and looking for trouble at the Old Colorado Brewing Company in Wellington from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Tiki Christmas party

Resolute Brewing in Centennial hosts its first tiki Christmas party from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, with a tropical photo booth and props, Lei necklaces, Hawaiian food truck eats, tiki mugs and a Juicy IPA release.

Hawaiian shirts are encouraged, and yacht rock will play all day.

Christmas movie brunch

Colorado Sake Co. in Denver hosts a movie brunch at noon Sunday, with holiday dumplings and “Elf” on a big projection screen in the tasting room’s event space. Tickets cost $8 per person.

Dance party

Sky Bear Brewery in Loveland hosts a ‘90s dance party at 8 p.m. Friday with DJ Brian Howe. Costumes are encouraged.

Ugly sweater party

This might be the last week for ugly Christmas sweaters, and we have one more opportunity to wear them. Mad Rabbit Distillery in Westminster hosts an ugly sweater party and contest from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, with gift cards for the top three best (worst?) sweaters.

Farewell to Ursula

Ursula Brewing in Aurora is closing, and will say farewell with a sacred fire party on Friday and Saturday, its last two days in business. The brewery will serve its Sacred Fire Scottish ale and barrel-aged variations, including an optional hot poker treatment, which gives the beer some s’mores flavors.

As always, please send us your events and announcements. We’re happy to share them. And enjoy your Colorado craft libations responsibly.
