Thirst Colorado’s best Halloween treats

October 13, 2023 Steve Graham

Get ready for spooky season with these stories from our archives (or crypt, if you will)

By the Thirst Team

It’s Friday the 13th, and Halloween is coming up fast. To get you in the mood for the season, here is some of our favorite creepy coverage from the first eight years of Thirst Colorado.

Oddities around Colorado

Natasha Lovato rounded up some of Colorado’s oddest and most ghoulish events and places, including ghost tours, a Ouray pharmaceutical museum and the Emma Crawford Coffin Races (above).

Truly scary stories

In 2021, Kristian DePue gathered up some real-life horror stories from around Colorado (including the backstory on those creepy coffin races).

Haunted haunts around the state

In a companion piece, DePue rounded up some haunted Colorado spots, and Brianne Keefer shot some fabulously haunting images in those locations.

Gravesite tour

Kyle Kirves rounded up some noteworthy gravesites around Colorado, ranging from a legendary Ute chief and frontier figures to Hollywood legends and prominent writers.

Halloween treats

With the right tools, these meringue ghosts are an easy and impressive (not to mention tasty) addition to a Halloween party.

A haunted mansion

Jay McKinney profiled a haunted Capitol Hill landmark that had just been renovated and reopened as Denver’s Marijuana Mansion.
