Craft Beer Veterans Open Mythmaker Brewing in Fort Collins

August 18, 2022 Steve Graham

Mythmaker owners Tom Moseman and Sarah Barlow

By David Young

Fort Collins’ newest brewery brings together some long-time veterans in the Northern Colorado craft beer scene, making the myth a reality with Mythmaker Brewing.

Former Black Bottle Brewery brewer Tom Moseman teamed up with co-owner and head of operations Sarah Barlow to launch Mythmaker Brewing. The new brewery, steeped in 25 years of collective craft beer experience, opened July 8 in the space where McClellan’s Brewing formerly operated at 1035 S. Taft Hill Road.

“We try to have the whole rainbow of beers, from straw-colored down to black,” Moseman said. “We offer every type (of beer) and try to offer something for everyone.”

Moseman is an award-winning commercial brewer from Long Island  who has spent the past nine years at Black Bottle honing his craft. Barlow has a wealth of knowledge having previously also worked at Maxline Brewing, Fort Collins Brewery, Snowbank Brewing and Red Truck Beer Company.

Moseman and Barlow funded the new venture in part with a Kickstarter fund, which garnered 122 backers pledging $17,625 to the project, highlighting the support of their local beer community.

Barlow said it was a great way to get support from friends as well as strangers who supported the brewery early on. It had the added benefit of serving as a marketing tool to spread the word about the new brewery.“The Fort Collins beer community is truly special because we're all working toward our shared passion for beer and sharing creative ways to brew and serve it,” said Moseman, who noted that fellow brewers were quick to help in any way they could, be it advice or equipment.

True to its namesake, Moseman said he plans to brew some mythical beers ranging from standards such as Brown Ales and Hazy IPAs to more experimental styles, such as a margarita gose that’s in the works. The first keg that kicked was an experimental smoked pineapple lager. Mythmaker has 14 taps and the duo is open to adding more down the line.

“We try to have the whole rainbow of beers, from straw-colored down to black,” Moseman said. “We offer every type (of beer) and try to offer something for everyone.”

Since opening, Moseman and Barlow said that business has been good and they have received great feedback on the beers. The brewery is already starting to garner some regulars who frequent the revamped brewery.

With the outpouring of support that they have received, Mythmaker wants to give back by partnering with local charities to design a beer together. Proceeds from the beer will go to charity. The brewery also showcases local artwork and regional food trucks.

“My passion for this industry is truly the connection to the community,” Barlow said in a press release. “I really love the way beer brings people together—be it old friends, a first date, or an entire community coming together for a family in need. I've seen it all throughout my years and I really can't wait to continue to be a part of that.”
