GET OUT OF TOWN

By the Thirst Team

Get Out of Town is our weekly roundup of recommended events across Colorado. For more happenings, check out our events calendar.

Winter Park Jazz Festival

Boyz II Men and Musiq Soulchild headline the 42nd annual Winter Park Jazz Festival on Saturday and Sunday at the Rendezvous Event Center. Each day, gates open at 10 a.m., and music starts at 11 a.m.
On Saturday, Sheila E, Gerald Albright, Ryan La Valette and Adrian Crutchfield will perform before Boyz II Men bring back their classic Motownphilly sound. On Sunday, Kirk Whalum, Mindi Abair, The Dazz Band, Four80east and Hazel Miller & The Collective will warm up the crowd for Soulchild.

Tennyson Street Fair

The third annual Tennyson Street Fair comes to northwest Denver on Friday and Saturday. The Friday kickoff includes the Berkeley Beer Fest from 5 to 8 p.m., concerts by Emelise and Cottonwood Drifters, and an artisan market. The beer fest includes samples of the Tennyson St Belgian Wit, an exclusive collaboration between Call to Arms Brewing Company and The Empourium Brewing Company.

Saturday’s festivities run from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., with vendors, food, artisan markets and live music from Teresa Storch Band, Moon Honey, Velvet Dream, and Boot Gun. Everything except the beer festival is free.

WestFax Springs anniversary party

WestFax Brewing Company in Lakewood moved pretty far from its namesake street (West Colfax Avenue) to open a second location. Despite the odd name, WestFax Springs is going strong on its first anniversary, so the Colorado Springs brewery will celebrate all weekend, with live music, giveaways, food trucks, beer releases and more.

And regulars at the original location can buy tickets on a Sunday party bus that will head down to Colorado Springs to toast the anniversary. Pickup is at noon in Lakewood, and only 45 tickets will be sold.

Armchair Boogie at Left Hand

On Saturday night, Swallow Hill Music kicks off a concert series at Left Hand Brewing in Longmont with funky Wisconsin bluegrass band Armchair Boogie. The series also includes Colorado progressive bluegrass favorites the Fretliners on Aug. 16; bluegrass and Americana group Colby T. Helms & The Virginia Creepers on Sept. 13; and Fireside Collective of Asheville, N.C., on Oct. 11.

The Wood Brothers at Big B’s

Big B's Delicious Orchards in Paonia hosts its biggest show of the summer on Saturday, when the Wood Brothers take the stage. Chris and Oliver Wood grew up in Boulder and traveled the country pursuing separate musical careers before reuniting in 2001, leading to a debut album on Blue Note Records in 2006. They have since recorded eight more studio albums and five live records. Ley Line & Emily Scott Robinson also are on the bill.

Logger Days Festival

South Fork celebrates the area’s culture and history all weekend at the Logger Days Festival. Competitions include chainsaw carving, ax throwing, the two-man cross cut and a relay race. The festival is free, and also includes vendors, food trucks, a beer garden, kids activities and more. Saturday night also brings the Rockin’ the Rio Grande Rodeo.

Save the date: Lafayette Peach Festival

Celebrate Palisade peaches on Saturday, Aug. 16, at the 26th annual Lafayette Peach Festival. In addition to 30,000 pounds of fresh peaches, peach pies, peach cobbler and peach hand pies will be available. The event also includes vendors, kids’ activities and more.

Meet Team Thirst at Colorado Craft Walk and the Richman Beer Garden

Finally, we hope to meet our readers and fellow enthusiastic Coloradans for the Colorado Craft Walk from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 27, at Denver’s Dairy Block. We also will set up shop on Friday, Aug. 15, for happy hour and live music at the new Richman Beer Garden at Ameristar Black Hawk.

We will be at both events with magazines, merch and a giveaway.

As always, please send us your events and announcements. We’re happy to share them. If they don’t fit in the Get Out of Town column, we will add them to our events calendar.
