GET OUT OF TOWN

By the Thirst Team

Get Out of Town is our weekly roundup of recommended events across Colorado. For more happenings, check out our events calendar.

Closing day at Wolf Creek

Despite a reported 62 inches of natural snow depth, Wolf Creek ski area outside Pagosa Springs closes its 85th season on Sunday.

Discount tickets are available through closing day, and the mountain hosts a final Super-G race on Saturday. Sunday brings a retro ski costume contest on the Upper Lodge Deck at 1 p.m., with prizes for the most original outfits.

Magic in Beaver Creek

The Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek hosts the Champions of Magic tour on Sunday and Monday.

The group has been touring the world for more than a decade, but said their current tour is completely new.

Dancing lights in Colorado Springs

iLuminate brings its unusual dance show to the Pikes Peak Center in Colorado Springs on Sunday. The group has been touring the world and making TV appearances since debuting on “America’s Got Talent” in 2011.

Dancers in electrified glow-in-the-dark suits perform routines and illusions on a darkened stage.

Arts in Boulder

Boulder Arts Week opens Friday and runs through Saturday, April 12. The celebration includes arts showcases, as well as workshops, masterclasses and discussion.

The City of Boulder is home to thousands of artists and more than 140 arts organizations. The National Endowment for the Arts reports that Boulder has the nation’s third-highest concentration of artists, after Los Angeles and Santa Fe.

Conversations in Boulder

Next week also brings the Conference on World Affairs (CWA) to Boulder. The conversation series with global leaders and experts runs Monday through Thursday. Monday brings an opening keynote presentation from the legendary Cynthia Erivo and part one of the “Ebert Interruptus.” Named for film critic and regular CWA attendee Roger Ebert, the series brings eight hours of discussion and analysis of one film — this year’s pick is “The Wizard of Oz.”

The rest of the week offers a series of lectures and discussions about politics, arts, culture, social sciences and just about everything else.

Save the Date: Taste of the West

The Taste of the West culinary festival is coming to the Foothills Fieldhouse on Thursday, June 5.

More than 80 restaurants, breweries, distilleries, wineries, specialty foodmakers and more will offer unlimited samples. Attendees can then vote for their favorites in eight award categories.

As always, please send us your events and announcements. We’re happy to share them. If they don’t fit in the Get Out of Town column, we will add them to our events calendar.
