Colorado brands collaborate on fly fishing gear package

September 30, 2024 Steve Graham

Fishpond fishing net comes paired with Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey

By David Young

Whiskey and fishing pair together like...well, like fishing and whiskey. Nothing completes time on the water quite like enjoying a good drink to celebrate your catch of the day. Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey and family-owned Colorado-based Fishpond have partnered on a new collaboration - The Fishpond X Stranahan's Fishing Net.

The two Colorado staples released a new collaboration fishing net featuring designs of the Roaring Fork River and Woody Creek. Local anglers are quite familiar with Fishpond’s gear—you can spot people across the state sporting their packs, nets, and fishing accessories.

The limited edition Fishpond X Stranahan’s Fishing Net, released just in time for the holiday gift-giving season, is highly durable as it is made with carbon fiber and a fiberglass composite. The mix not only makes the net strong but also lightweight.

The long handle, which has a topographical-style map of the rivers on it, makes it easy to scoop a catch in the basket that is a foot deep. And for all the anglers who fumble fish and drop nets, the sleek black and yellow net is waterproof and floats.

Fishpond was founded at the Otter Creek Ranch in Summit County. The ranch sits at 8,200 feet and serves as the functional lab where wild rivers form at the headwaters and Fishpond’s nets and other fishing gear are tested. The Certified B Corporation has been making fishing gear for anglers for more than 20 years.

The new release also includes a bottle of Stranahan’s Blue Peak Whiskey. The bottle, which tastes better on a river with a fly rod in hand, is an American Single Malt (ASM) style whiskey that is double-distilled at high altitude and aged for 4 years in new American oak barrels with a No. 3 char. Blue Peak has notes of burnt marshmallow, butterscotch, brown sugar and maple.

The whiskey is named in honor of Blue Peak, a 13,000-foot peak in the San Juan mountains, making this partnership as Colorado as it gets.

The limited-edition Fishpond X Stranahan’s Fishing Net and a bottle of Stranahan’s Blue Peak Whiskey sell for $217 and are available here.
