Events of the week around Colorado

July 3, 2024 Steve Graham

Range Call Rodeo action

Celebrate cherries, the state’s oldest rodeo and, of course, Independence Day

Get out of Town

By The Thirst Team

Meeker rodeo

The Range Call Rodeo in the northwestern Colorado town of Meeker is billed as the oldest annual rodeo in Colorado, dating back to 1885. The festival opens today with a pageant and a re-enactment of the Meeker Incident, an 1879 Ute uprising. On Thursday, there is a 5K race, 4th of July parade, basketball tournament, bank robbery re-enactment and, of course, fireworks.

The festival continues  through Sunday, with daily rodeo events and live music from Clay Morgan, William Michael Morgan and more.

Paonia Cherry Days

The Cherry Days festival returns to Paonia Thursday through Saturday, with live music, a parade, rodeo, tournaments and contests, a 5K race, ice cream social, community talent show and more.

Just outside of town, camping is available at Big B’s Orchards. The cider and fruit company also hosts live music, a cafe and fruit picking.

Destination of the week: Buena Vista

Buena Vista is another destination for old-fashioned Americana on the 4th of July. The rafting mecca in central Colorado hosts a pancake breakfast, 5K run, parade, duck races, live music and fireworks.

Taste of the Week: Taste of Arvada

Our taste of the week is a chance to sample food and beverages from more than 50 restaurants, bars and other vendors at the annual Taste of Arvada. Attendees can also vote for their favorites in a variety of categories. Tickets are still available for the event on Thursday, July 11, at the Apex Center. Tickets will not be sold at the door.

Save the date: Winter Park Brew Fest

The third annual Winter Park Brew Fest comes to the Rendezvous Event Center on Saturday, Aug. 3, with live music from the Eighties Band and other performers to be announced.

As always, please send us your events and announcements. We’re happy to share them. And enjoy your Colorado craft libations responsibly.
