Craft Drinks Scene Roundup Feb. 8-14

February 7, 2024 Steve Graham

The Brothers of Brass band will play at the Outworld Brewing Mardi Gras party.

By the Thirst Team

I hope your kitchen is well-stocked with drinks, king cake and chocolate. The Super Bowl, Mardi Gras and Valentine’s Day are all in the next seven days. Plus there are anniversaries, chili cook-offs and much more at your local craft libations businesses this week. I’m highlighting a few that caught my attention, but nearly every taproom, tasting room and restaurant in the state has some fun events and specials this week. Use our lists of breweries; distilleries; and wine, mead and cider joints to find a new favorite place to watch the big game.

Prep for Valentine’s in Grand Junction

Get ready for Valentine’s Day at the Carlson Vineyards tasting room in downtown Grand Junction.

Nibbles & Sips will lead a flower-themed charcuterie board and brie cake-making class at 5:30 p.m. Friday. Tickets cost $80, including two glasses, a branded charcuterie board and all the fixings.

Early Valentine’s in Denver

Denver’s Bonacquisti Wine Company hosts a wine and chocolate dinner at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, with four chocolate-infused courses paired with wines.

Vegas comes to Arvada

An ordained Elvis impersonator will officiate weddings, vow renewals and anything else, really, at a little pop-up Vegas wedding chapel at Talnua Distillery in Arvada from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday. A professional photographer will be on site, and Vegas tourist costumes are highly encouraged. The distillery will also offer specialty Vegas Valentines cocktails and frozen drinks, a lobster food truck, and a bakery pop-up shop.

Cider party in Aurora

Haykin Family Cider in Aurora celebrates its sixth anniversary from 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday, with a special tasting menu, small bites from So Damn Gouda and more.

Chili Cook-off in Golden

Everything at Holidaily Brewing in Golden is gluten-free. Even the chili competition at 1 p.m. Saturday. Chili entries are free, but recipes must be submitted in advance to confirm gluten-free ingredients. Unlimited tasting tickets cost $10, including a free pint of beer.

Also, visit the Denver Tech Center taproom next Thursday to meet representatives from Black Girls Do Bike, who also receive 10 percent of all sales that day.

High-flying fun in Denver

FlyteCo Tower has Valentine’s Day covered for singles, couples and even families. At Axes + Exes, you can upload a photo of an ex-partner and throw axes at them. Then meet new people. Singles can pair up in an axe-throwing bay for $20.

Kids eat free that night, and anyone can climb the 164-foot FlyteCo Tower (the former Stapleton Airport air traffic control tower) for $12. The brewery also offers a $20 ice cream and beer pairing flight.

Five Points Mardi Gras and Valentine’s

Spangalang Brewery in Denver’s historic Five Points neighborhood always brings the “bontemps.” So it’s a good place to celebrate Mardi Gras on Tuesday. Their party includes a crawfish boil and live music from Big Wheel, an “electro-soul” band. Reserve tickets here.

On Wednesday, Spangalang offers a Valentine’s Day dessert bar and soulful serenades by Marlo. Reserve a table here.

Brothers of Brass band

Longmont Mardi Gras

Outworld Brewing in Longmont also hosts a Mardi Gras party starting at 3 p.m. Tuesday, with beads, masks, a second line and Cajun food and drinks. The menu includes gumbo, jambalaya, and red beans and rice. The Brothers of Brass band will play live at 8 p.m.

Galentine’s in Boulder

Upslope Brewing in Boulder hosts a ladies’ paint & pints party from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday for Galentine’s Day, the “best day of the year,” according to Leslie Knope.

Love letter to Denver

The Block Distilling isn’t upselling Valentine’s Day. Instead, the RiNo tasting room offers its “Love Letter to Denver,” and will give anyone a free cocktail between 3 and 10 p.m. next Wednesday.

As always, please send us your events and announcements. We’re happy to share them. And enjoy your Colorado craft libations responsibly.
