Craft Drinks Scene Roundup Feb. 1 to 7

January 31, 2024 Steve Graham

So much stout month

  • Mountain Sun will bring back the original stout month, with a wide array of dark brews throughout February at its three taprooms in Boulder and Longmont (but sadly not in Denver, as Vine Street Pub remains closed).

  • The Mercury Cafe will host a release party on Friday for Ratio Beerworks’ Genius Wizard barrel-aged stout. The ninth annual release includes a caramel, coconut, chocolate variant and two more flavors that will only be available at the party. The event also includes Laws Whiskey House tastings, small bites from Uptown and Humboldt, a DJ and an art exhibit.

  • Cerebral Brewing hosts a guided stout tasting Thursday at the Aurora Arts taproom. The tasting includes the debut of two new Here Be Monsters releases, and two other stouts. On Saturday, Cerebral’s Congress Park taproom hosts the Vantabrews stout tap takeover, with at least six rare beers from breweries around the country.

  • Hops & Pie in north Denver will tap some legendary stouts all month, and craft the “Darker & Stormier” stout month cocktail all month.

  • WeldWerks’ Cuvee de Chocolatier collection can be ordered for $59 here. The box set is a trio of barrel-aged stouts, including a caramel edition, coconut infusion and strawberry symphony.

  • Red Leg Brewing in Colorado Springs will tap a new stout every Friday this month, starting with a s’mores stout on Friday and a salted caramel espresso version next week.

  • Woods Boss Brewing will release a chocolate cherry stout and an Irish coffee cream stout, and bring back other stouts throughout the month.

Day of Darks

Not all dark beers are stouts, so Wynkoop is celebrating all dark winter seasonals at its annual Day of Darks festival on Saturday. At least 14 Colorado breweries will pour dark beers.

Advance tickets cost $40, including unlimited beer tastings, appetizers, desserts and a commemorative glass.

The festival is a fundraiser for the Movember Foundation, a global men’s health foundation working on mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.

Team Thirst will be there with swag. Look for the guy in a Thirst Colorado tee.

Valentine’s WhiskeyGrams

State 38 Distilling in Golden is taking pre-orders for Valentine’s Day WhiskeyGrams, bottles of whiskey paired with two cupcakes and a love note. Six whiskey options and multiple Gold Mine cupcake flavors are available.

Brews for Rescues

Finally, save the date for the popular Brews for Rescues beer festival, coming to Pagosa Springs on April 27. At least 20 regional breweries will pour samples at the event, and advance tickets cost $25.

The event is a fundraiser for Rugby’s Rescue House, a local dog rescue.

As always, please send us your events and announcements. We’re happy to share them. And enjoy your Colorado craft libations responsibly.
