This summer Colorado craft distiller Mythology packed up its bottles and relocated from Denver, where it was founded, to Steamboat Springs. The move is part of what the distillery dubs the state’s first destination distillery experience, complete with an outdoor whiskey garden on 1.5 acres in one of the state’s most scenic valleys.

Mythology’s roots are in an Alaska backcountry ski trip where founder Scott Yeates and friends shared steep lines and deep glasses of whiskey. The experience, filled with adventure, good times, and better stories, launched Mythology into reality in Denver’s Lower Highlands neighborhood in 2018.

Since then the distillery has honed an array of award-winning spirits including gin, whiskey, vodka, and specialty spirits. The distillery racked up more than 60 national and international awards and started distributing its spirits in 10 states.

With the philosophy that people develop their own “mythology” by traveling the world and connecting and sharing adventures with others, Yeates and the team weren’t content to sit on their success in Denver. Instead, they have relocated to a brand new campus in Steamboat that sits above the Copper Ridge Mountains.

The new distillery location also includes a 5,000-square-foot distillery. Leaning into mountain vibes, Mythology also created a new tasting room and restaurant, which is serving Asian soup dumplings and noodle dishes, with a modern log cabin-style look. Mythology’s entire aim with the relocation to Steamboat is to bring visitors and locals alike together in one location where they can highlight the distilling process. At the same time, the distillery can increase the brand’s production.

With the new location, Mythology will increase its production capacity. The distillery plans to jump from its current production of 12,000 cases per year to 40,000 to 50,000 cases per year, within the next 5 years, more than tripling its output.

A main centerpiece for visitors is an expansive outdoor Whiskey Garden that includes a full cocktail bar offering Mythology spirits, local craft beer, and boutique wines. While enjoying a beverage in the garden, there is a large fire pit surrounded by games, live music, and a mountain slide for the entire family.

The new space also means new spirits, as the campus has a second 5,000-square-foot rackhouse to store barrels for aging. With this new campus, Mythology has consolidated all of its productions to Steamboat Springs, which is where the founders are originally from.

Mythology is offering guided tours of the new distillery for $25 in order to provide some insights into the craft distilling process including whiskey blending, gin distillation, and a rackhouse tour that ends with samples.

The distillery is also hosting an array of events at the new location, from concerts to cocktail classes.
