Craft Drinks Scene Roundup March 15-21

By The Thirst Team

St. Patrick’s Day is on Friday, so expect plenty of green beer, Irish stouts and corned beef (personally, I prefer to make Irish soda bread to mark the holiday). Click here for a roundup of more unusual St. Patrick’s Day events.

And read on for other happenings this week at some of our favorite Colorado craft libations spots.

Uhl’s anniversary party

Boulder’s Uhl’s Brewing Co. will mark its third anniversary on Saturday with barrel-aged bottle and can releases, live music by Bathing Lagoon from 6 to 9 p.m., and cuisine by Vinnie & Marie's Italian food truck from 2 to 8 p.m. Releases include imperial stouts, a hazy IPA and a hoppy American lager.

Double D’s anniversary

We like to hype craft libations anniversaries, but the food trucks sling most of the craft vittles we enjoy at breweries and distilleries. So we appreciate that the very community-oriented Walter’s Brewery in Pueblo is recognizing one of its regular partners. Walter’s hosts a 4-year anniversary party for Double D's BBQ Shack from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday.

B-Town tastings

B-Town Wine and Spirits, one of Boulder’s best curated craft libations destinations, hosts some great tastings this month, including Coole Swan Irish Creme Liqueur and Grand Brulot Coffee Liqueur tomorrow; Stirlini premixed coffee cocktails on March 23; Crooked Stave on March 30. Next month brings Ska Brewing, 4 Noses Brewing and Weldwerks.

Pedalboard meet and swap

We’re used to hearing plenty of local music at craft breweries, but TRVE Brewing is taking it to the next level, as usual. Flipside Music will be in the Denver taproom from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday to sell boutique effects pedals and host a public meet and swap.

Bootstrap chili cook-off

Longmont’s Bootstrap Brewing Co. hosts its annual chili cook-off at 4 p.m. Sunday. Enter your best chili or taste and vote. No entry fee, but sign up in the taproom for a chance to win a Bootstrap gift card and your spot on the trophy.

Spring equinox market

The Block Distilling in RiNo hosts a pop-up market on Sunday to welcome spring, with flash tattoos, a community clothing swap, a new whiskey release and other vendors.

Ironton comedy night

Ironton Distillery in Denver hosts a comedy showcase at 7 p.m. tomorrow, with a $10 cover.

The lineup includes the “Minnesota Nice” Sam Ellefson, the offbeat Jose Macall and Louisiana native Andrew Scalia.

Vinyl and vines

Bonacquisti Wine Co. in Denver really treats its wine club members well. They get three bottles every quarter, plus discounts of purchases and events, waived tasting fees, early access to new releases and a vinyl DJ wine release party. The next shindig is from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Colorado Grapes 101

Next Wednesday, Vino Salida Wine Cellars’ sommelier Susan Sanford hosts a seminar and tasting focused on the history and art of growing grapes in Colorado. Tickets cost $35 for the Poncha Springs event. Call 719-539-6299 for details and reservations.

Paint your pet

Pet owners can make a painting of their pet with Canvas and Cocktails at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Locavore Beer Works in Littleton. Registration costs $75 and closes tomorrow.

Distillery release of the week

Colorado drinkers are getting pickled in a new way. On the heels of Dirty Dill’s new spicy pickle shots, 3 Hundred Days Distilling in Monument is set to release a new dill pickle infusion for specialty cocktails in the tasting room.

Brewery release of the week

There is nothing we don’t love about Ratio Beerworks’ King of Carrot Flowers. The elderflower and carrot saison may sound gimmicky and excessively odd, but it’s delicious, refreshing and certainly worth a try, even for non-saison and sour fans. Plus, it is named for the opening track on a legendary indie pop album

Ratio is about to bring the seasonal favorite back — permanently, and celebrating with a RiNo taproom happy hour launch on Friday with DJ New Found Cory, spinning pop punk from 4 to 8 p.m. The King of Carrot Flowers hot sauce by Oso Hot Sauce also is back.

As always, please send us your events and announcements. We’re happy to share them. And enjoy your Colorado craft libations responsibly.
