Sanitas Brewing to open Englewood outpost

Collaboration, connection, and community are the three hallmarks of Sanitas Brewing Co. that have been evident in the flagship Boulder location since its inception in 2013. Now, co-founders Michael Memsic and Chris Coyne are excited to bring the same ideals and great beers to their new location opening early this year.

Located at the intersection of south Broadway and Belleview Avenue in Englewood, the new Sanitas location has been built with the patrons in mind. “We think about the people who are wanting to enjoy the space, and use that to design it,” says Memsic.

Sanitas’ new Englewood taproom

The spacious and contemporary taproom will feature a massive 2500-square-foot patio (with room to grow), a permanent food vendor, and a coffee shop. Sanitas is not just a place to grab a beer with friends, but also a co-working space or whatever one might want it to be. While the Boulder space has a taco cart, the plan is to create a local restaurant tour at the new location with six or seven different vendors.

“Sanitas is different in the way we build spaces that build community. It’s not just a taproom, it's inclusive of all people, and the space is really catered to that,” says Memsic of Sanitas’ philosophy. At the Boulder location, this has manifested in a number of ways, most notably with the Everyday Mountain Pilsner. This beer is in collaboration with Boulder Open Space and a portion of the proceeds goes back to Mount Sanitas, the brewery’s iconic namesake.

Additionally, many of the events hosted by the brewery are in conjunction with local businesses and organizations. Most recently, the Sanitas Winter Market hosted multiple local vendors. A brewery committee worked on the event to make sure the vendors fully represented the diversity of the community, and all were encouraged to give back to local nonprofits afterwards, including to victims of the shooting at Club Q.

The Sanitas team is excited to bring this mentality of connection to the new taproom as well. “We think there's a huge opportunity in Englewood,” says Memsic, who has already spent time getting to know the local community, including being involved in the recent Englewood Block Party and hosting events at Pirates Cove Water Park. They’ll also be creating a collaboration brew at the Englewood location in partnership with the newly opened Sunroom Brewing on Acoma Street. The beer will likely be an IPA, something Sanitas is known for, and will be brewing during the holidays.

While Sanitas has made a name for itself with its IPAs, sours, and lagers, they're excited to get to play around a little bit more at the new Englewood location. Brewer Scott Clutter will be coming down from the Boulder location and using the new smaller brewing space for research and discovery opportunities.

“Hopefully you’ll see a lot of new beers coming out that are separate from our bread and butter,” Memsic said.

While anxiously awaiting the opening of the new location, Sanitas will continue to host events at the Boulder taproom to bring together its community. One of the most exciting upcoming events is the .5k run on January 14.

“Not everyone can or wants to run a 5k, and that’s how we came up with the idea of a .5k,” says Jordan Harris, marketing manager for Sanitas Brewing. Participants in the event will start with some warm-up activities and then run around the Boulder warehouse, the distance around which is exactly .5k. At the end, they can celebrate with a free beer and a visit to one of the many local vendors attending the event.
