Walk to make an impact for animals

Join the Furry Scurry May 7

The Denver Dumb Friends League is responsible for finding loving homes for abandoned pets and bringing joy to lives in doing so. After a two-year hiatus, the annual Furry Scurry is back, and pet owners are encouraged to celebrate with their furry friends on May 7 at Washington Park in Denver. Those who have adopted animals through the Dumb Friends League know how profound the impact can be on both people and the animals.

“After two years of virtual scurrying due to COVID-19, the Dumb Friends League is excited to be back in Wash Park for the 29th annual Furry Scurry event,” says Vice President of Development, Marketing, Communications and Education, Laurie Peterson. “With your support, the Dumb Friends League can help more animals find homes, receive medical care and vaccinations, and keep families together.”

This will be the event’s 29th anniversary and everyone is welcome to celebrate this incredible organization’s accomplishments. Most cats would probably prefer to lay on the couch instead, but dogs will be itching to get out and socialize for a spring day in the park. Those interested in attending are encouraged to register through the Dumb Friends League website by April 30.

Attendees will have multiple registration options, including individually, or as a team with a group of friends. Those who can’t attend will have a chance to participate remotely (a nice option for cats and other house-bound animals).

The funds raised at the Furry Scurry help the animals sheltered at the Denver Dumb Friends League in a variety of ways. Funds from the event will support shelter and community veterinary services, humane education, the Colorado Humane Society (one of the League’s programs) and the adoption of animals.

In 2021, the Dumb Friends League served 7,132 animals through vaccine clinics in neighborhoods across the Denver Metro area. The organization is also proud to report that it provided Humane Education programs to 16,651 children and adults throughout the year.

Regarding this year’s Furry Scurry event, the organization is hoping to have 4,000 people or more register. Surely dogs and their humans are ready for the return after two years pent-up with virtual alternatives.
