It’s spooky season. Get out and get ghoulish

The Thirst Team

With Halloween just around the corner, you probably know about the pumpkin patches and haunted houses in your neighborhood. Here are some of the other haunted happenings around Colorado this month.

Halloween pop-up bar

Black Lagoon, an award-winning Halloween pop-up bar, opens Monday in Denver’s RiNo Yacht Club. “Black Lagoon pays homage to the macabre and throws in a splash of goth and metal for good measure,” the company said in a press release. “Think more ‘House of 1,000 Corpses’ and less ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas.’”

The dark, dungeon-like environment is bedecked with skulls, life-size coffins and other elements of the occult and bizarre. The drinks menu is built around Halloween hues — blood red, the darkest black and an eerie orange — and some will be served in custom glassware.

Haunted spirit house

The owners of Fuel & Iron Kitchen in Denver just opened Honor Farm in what they claim to be the most haunted building in downtown Denver. The haunting-themed restaurant serves cocktails including the Carpe Demon, Sadism in the Name of Science and Chivalry is Not Dead .. But Lydia Is. The food menu includes sandwiches, burgers and green chili, with a distinct nod toward the owners’ Pueblo roots and history.

Zombies, trivia and more

Loveland Aleworks is really leaning in to the season, starting a zombie crawl at 4 p.m. next Saturday, and staging two Thursday trivia nights: Halloween movie trivia on Oct. 20 and horror movie trivia on Oct. 27. There is also a spooky beer tour and costume contest starting at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29.

“A Grave Affair” drag brunch

Copper Kettle Brewing Company in Denver hosts a 21-plus Halloween-themed drag brunch at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15. Tickets cost $15 and include one free beer. The Bandwagon Sandwich Co. food truck will be on hand with brunch options. The drag queens will also choose the best costumes, and give out prizes.

CKBC also just released its 2022 Spooky Hollow, a 9.2-percent ABV rum barrel-aged imperial pumpkin porter.

Mystery and murder movie nights

The Museum of Outdoor Arts in Englewood hosts a mystery and murder movie night series next weekend. “Serial Mom” opens the event on Thursday, Oct. 20, followed by “Clue” on Friday, and “Knives Out” on Saturday. Hot drinks, food trucks and yard games also will be available. General admission tickets cost $15 (or free for MOA members), or fireside tables for up to six people are available for $150.

Spooktober movie marathon

Red Leg Brewing Company in Colorado Springs hosts Halloween movies every Thursday (and Halloween night) at 7 p.m. Movies are free, and popcorn, candy and beer are available for purchase.

Sunroom movie series

Sunroom Brewing, Englewood’s newest brewery, is also hosting weekly Halloween flicks. Visit the brewery on South Acoma Street at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, for “Scary Movie 5.” The next Wednesday brings “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” and the brewery hosts a Halloween party with beer deals and free candy, starting at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31.

Wonderbound’s “Penny Dreadful”

Vampires of ballet

Colorado Ballet’s stunning take on “Dracula” is sold out, but there is another vampiric story dancing onto a Denver stage.

Wonderbound, a contemporary ballet company, is bringing back its original “Penny’s Dreadful,” a captivating and sensual story set in Paris to a fantastic 1980’s soundtrack.

The show runs Thursday, Oct. 20, through Sunday, Oct. 30. As of this writing, limited tickets are still available for select times.

Spooky symphonies

Speaking of performing arts, the Colorado Symphony is performing live scores for a pair of family-friendly Halloween movies. On Friday and Saturday, Oct. 21 and 22, the orchestra will perform live music to accompany the original “Hocus Pocus,” followed by “The Nightmare Before Christmas” on Oct. 28 and 29. Finally, the “Halloween Spooktacular” is a family matinee on Sunday, Oct. 30, with music from film and TV, with costumes encouraged and showcased.

If we missed your event, let us know and we will add it to the list.
