How to keep helping Marshall fire relief efforts

January 12, 2022 Paul Johnson

Hazel Miller is headlining a wildfire relief fundraiser concert at the Oriental Theater.

Thirst Staff Report

Editor’s note: Updated to include Feb. 4 Boulder Theater show

Boulder County residents impacted by the devastating and destructive Marshall Fire still need support and help. And Colorado is still stepping up. Fundraising events continue this week and beyond.

Rally for the wildfire fund

Through tomorrow, the Old Man Winter Rally will donate $20 from every registration to the Boulder County Wildfire Fund. The organizers will also donate $20 for every hour volunteered at the biking and running event, which is coming to Lyons on Feb. 6.

Murder mystery dinner for a cause

Outworld Brewing Co. and Stages: A Practical Theatrical will host its monthly murder mystery dinner at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15. The plot twist this month: $10 from each ticket sold will go to those impacted by the Boulder County fires.

Tickets cost $40, including dinner and an interactive mystery experience, with the audience helping investigate and solve the crime. The audience is encouraged to dress for the occasion, and there will be a prize for the best costume.

Sports bar benefit event

Sports Lounge Off Broadway in Highlands Ranch is also hosting a fundraiser on Saturday. Donate new or gently used items and non-perishables to help affected families. With any donation, your first drink is free.

The event is co-sponsored by Colorado State Insurance

Community Support Run

Mark your calendar and warm up your legs for Saturday, Jan. 22. Boulder Running Company will host an untimed live and virtual 5K run to support wildfire relief efforts. Join the event at 9:30 a.m. on the 22nd at any Boulder Running Company location in Colorado, or virtually from anywhere.

Donations of any size are accepted, but organizers request a minimum of $25. All proceeds will go to the Community Foundation of Boulder County and Boulder Voices for Children.

Musicians for Marshall Fire Concert

Legendary Colorado musician Hazel Miller started rallying local musicians through a Facebook post. The post went viral, and led to a concert coming to the Oriental Theater in north Denver starting at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6. Miller will share the stage with the Jacob Larson Band, Hot Lunch Band and Dotsero. The ticket cost is a suggested donation of $30 per person (show your Eventbrite receipt at the door).

Music for Marshall

The Drunken Hearts + Buffalo Commons show, originally at the Fox Theatre on Feb. 4, has been moved to Boulder Theater, and turned into a Marshall Fire benefit show. Many local Colorado musicians will perform for an evening of music and fundraising. The event includes a silent auction with donations from WinterWonderGrass, Yarmony, Elephant Revival, The String Cheese Incident, Yonder Mountain String Band, Leftover Salmon, Greensky Bluegrass, Kitchen Dwellers, Infamous Stringdusters, Railroad Earth, Lil Smokies, and more.

We got this

To help provide some support and comfort to those affected by the Marshall Fires, Conscious Alliance formed We Got This. The group is rallying local and national brands to contribute products and services to Colorado Community Care Packages. Brands all over the country are providing free gift cards (or Care Package Cards that house all benefits) to support families. To become a participating brand or to learn more, email Help@WeGotThisColorado.com.

There are also plenty of other ways to support the affected communities, or find resources for victims. Here is a list of resources.
