Brewery anniversary parties on tap

Thirst staff reports

Happy birthday to beer, or at least to some Colorado beermakers. A few parties and special releases are on tap to mark brewery anniversaries around Colorado. Here’s where to find the fun — and the beer.

Casey Brewing and Blending, Glenwood Springs

Wrong Answers Only, a specialty barrel-aged stout, will be tapped on Friday, Aug. 27, to celebrate the 2nd anniversary of the Casey taproom in downtown Glenwood Springs. Down the street, the riverside barrel cellar has a new patio. But the cellar is only open for two more weekends this year. After Sept. 5, the bar will be closed to the public until next spring.

Casey has quickly built a reputation for hiqh-quality old-world beers. The beer is fermented and aged in vintage oak barrels, with a mix of wild yeast and bacteria. It’s all made with 99-percent Colorado ingredients.

Rock Cut Brewing, Estes Park

You know when you see someone bopping down the street, but you can’t hear the music playing in their head — or their headphones. You’ll be able to hear the tunes on Sunday, Aug. 29, when Rock Cut Brewing in Estes Park hosts a silent disco to celebrate six years of quenching the thirst of hikers leaving Rocky Mountain National Park.

At a silent disco, you get a pair of headphones to hear one of several channels of DJed music, and dance. Unlike a regular disco, you can adjust the volume, switch the music and even take off the headphones to have a conversation without screaming.

The anniversary tap lineup includes six specialty beers:

• Dry Hopped River Culture — Dry hopped pale sour

• Strawberry Ptarmigan — Strawberry sour

• Elkins Raven — Elkins whisky barrel-aged imperial stout

• KIND Raven — Barrel-aged imperial stout with Kind Coffee

• Wooden Otter — Barrel-aged barleywine

• Secret release Wooden Raven - Barrel-aged imperial stout with something special

Roaming Rations and WesTex BBQ food trucks will also be on hand. The event runs all day, with silent disco from 7 to 10.

Stodgy Brewing, Fort Collins

For one year, Stodgy Brewing has been serving good beers on a large patio and front yard in a quiet west Fort Collins neighborhood. Natalie Yoder and Tyler Olpin started planning the brewery, in a longtime fireplace and stove store, in 2019. Of course, they had no idea a pandemic would hamper their opening in 2020.

Thankfully, they had planned all that outdoor space, so they could still open and attract a crowd. Now, they have survived a full year, and they are ready to party.

Blue Grama Bluegrass will play the first amplified concert at Stodgy from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 4. The brewery also will have a few special beer releases.

Holidaily Brewing, DTC

This one is more a coming-out party than a birthday event. Golden’s Holidaily Brewing, the first dedicated gluten-free brewery in Colorado, celebrates the opening of a new taproom in the Denver Tech Center. The grand opening starts at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27. Holidaily has put together $40 grand opening party packs, including a tote bag, a crowler 3-pack, a $10 Holidaily gift card and exclusive stickers.

The brewery will also offer exclusive new beers, and will run contests to give away free beer for a year on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 28 and 29.

Denver Beer Co.

Finally, Denver Beer Co. just celebrated its 10th anniversary last weekend, but as of press time, the brewery still had a few 22-ounce bombers left of the Anniversary 10 Imperial Porter with Raspberries and Graham Crackers. These probably won’t last much longer.
