Boulder Breweries Team Up for a Good Cause

Get Your Colorado Care Can and Support the Community

 By Jay McKinney

Following the horrific Boulder supermarket tragedy, six local breweries have joined forces along with Fortnight Collective to create, Colorado Care Can, a variety of community crafted beers in which 100 percent of the proceeds go to the Colorado Healing Fund.

The Colorado Healing Fund is a non-profit organization that was created in 2018 to assist local communities facing financial, emotional and physical hardships. The breweries that have participated in the six pack include Upslope Brewing Company, Oskar Blues Brewing, Left Hand Brewing, Sanitas Brewing Co., Bootstrap Brewing Co. and Mountain Sun Pub & Brewery. Each six pack will include one beer from each brewery and is a great variety with some notable favorites like Dale’s Pale Ale from Oskar Blues. Also, this will be the first time Mountain Sun Pub & Brewery will have its beer packaged into a can.

The charitable push was popular with brewing industry veterans.

“We feel a deep responsibility to help our neighbors in any way we can,” says Matt Cutter, founder and president of Upslope Brewing Company. “By joining together with local breweries with a common purpose, our hope is to engage the community in the best way we know how and help Boulder heal.”

While all of the participating breweries are thrilled to be involved in this collaboration, the idea for Colorado Care Can actually was created by Fortnight Collective, a Boulder-based company that specializes in helping the strategic and creative development of brands. After brainstorming 14 different design ideas, they chose a design that displays the Colorado state flag at half-mast along with 10 stars in a circular pattern to honor the 10 victims that lost their lives in the tragedy. In addition, the flag waves in a way that distorts the center ‘CO’ icon into a heart.

“As a proud Coloradan, it’s upsetting to see the Boulder community in pain,” says Andy Nathan, CEO of Fortnight Collective. “While we can’t take the hurt away after this tragedy, we know how important it is to come together to show compassion. Through this design, we wanted to communicate our respect for the victims and give back to them, while also empowering our tight-knit community which comes together in the face of tragedy.”

On May 26, the Colorado Care Can will be available for $10 and the participating breweries will join together for a Sip of Silence in memory of the victims who lost their lives in this tragedy.

You can purchase the brews at the participating breweries, where they will also be selling tote bags with a similar design as well. The Colorado Care Can will also have a QR code that will take you directly to the Colorado Healing Fund where you can donate additional money if you’d like.
