New Belgium Releases 2017 Transatlantique Kriek

New Belgium Brewing Co. released two new beers just in time for the heat of summer.

The 2017 Transatlantique Kriek is made with 50 percent of New Belgium’s foeder-aged golden sour. It’s then mixed with 50 percent authentic Kriek Lambic from Brewery Oud Beersel in Belgium to create the brewery’s first 100 percent wood-aged sour.

Previously released in February, the lambic gets its tartness from spending more time maturing on oak and has a flavor profile of spritzy, mouthwatering and fruity.

The 6.5% ABV beer has already received some recognition. “Because of our process with this beer, we actually had the incredible honor of having Transatlantique Kriek at this year’s Toer de Geuze in Belgium, the premier sour beer event in the world,” said Andrew Emerton, New Belgium specialty brand manager.

The event allowed the brewing company to showcase their beer alongside 12 other authentic lambic producers back in May.

The second release, Voodoo Ranger Passionfruit Imperial IPA, is the latest addition to the Voodoo Ranger line. It’s a specialty brew with tropical aromas and passionfruit flavors that make it perfect for summer weather. As a double IPA, there is a strong presence of citra and galaxy hops. It contains 8% ABV and is available for a limited time only.

In addition to these releases, New Belgium Brewing is also working to create Fat Tire’s first ever line extension in August. With ingredients from the local Old Town Spice Shop, the Fat Tire Belgian White is a light-bodied, unfiltered wheat beer brewed with Seville orange peels and freshly ground coriander to create a balance of refreshment, drinkability and sweetness.

These beers, and others, can be found at New Belgium's libation locator or their Beer Mode app.
