Ten Ways to Make Halloween a Scream this year

Colorado gets crafty this October with beer, spirits, food and music.

All Hallows Eve in Colorado is about more than dressing up and trick or treating. It’s an excuse to have fun and enjoy what the craft industries have to offer this holiday. Here are 10 crafty things to do throughout the state this Halloween. 

1. Haunted Brewfest : Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs is set to host the Haunted Brewfest for the fourth year this Saturday, Oct. 21, at the Norris-Penrose Indoor Event Center. The event is split up into two sessions and features unlimited tastings from 70 breweries, wine distributors and distilleries in the region. To give the event its Halloween twist, “Hellscream Haunts award-winning cast and characters from local haunted house attractions will be roaming the Haunted Brewfest and offering discount tickets to the haunted house,” the event website says. While costumes are not required, they are encouraged with a $50 cash prize being awarded for the best male and female costumes. 

Tickets are between $35-$50 depending on ticket type, session and when you buy them. There is a $50 cash prize for the best male and female costumes.

2. Union Station Parade and Spooky Speakeasy

Halloween at Union Station includes two days of fun this year. Thursday, Oct. 26, from 5-8 p.m., merchant shops will provide trick-or-treating for the young ones while a costume parade will take over the building starting at the Plazas through the Great Hall with prizes and adult drink specials. Friday, from 9 p.m. to midnight, the lower gallery level bar transforms into a speakeasy featuring “a live DJ, themed cocktails and a costume contest with a grand prize including a free night at the The Crawford Hotel and a $100 Denver Union Station gift card,” according to Union Station’s website

3. Viewhouse Halloween

The Viewhouse event calendar is jam packed with things to do at all three locations throughout the weekend leading up to Halloween. Thursday, Oct. 26, includes pumpkin carvings while Friday features beer tastings, pumpkin bowling and live DJs. Saturday is full of costume contests with special taproom events like a house of horrors and silent disco. Sunday is for brunch and prizes. The festivities continue Monday with spooky themed football watch parties. Finally, Tuesday, the extravaganza comes to an end with epic dance parties and date nights.

4. Monster Dash Run: Denver and Louisville

Either chase or be chased at the 7th annual Monster Dash Run, which takes on a zombie theme this year at two locations in Colorado.

Denver

In Denver, the run begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, looping around Berkeley Park and Rocky Mountain Lake Park. Food and costume contents will follow the conclusion of the race. At night, there is a post party in partner with Avery Brewing at Local 46 Bar & Grill. Participants will receive a free beer, breakfast and t-shirt. 

Louisville

Louisville participants will take part in the zombie chase at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 29. Starting at Community Park, the race is followed by food and costume contests. Avery Brewing once again helps host the post party at a local pub in the town that is yet to be announced. Registration includes a free beer, dinner and t-shirt.

Registration for adults is $30 for the 5K and $35 for the 10K.

5. Darkness Pours: New Belgium Brewing

On Saturday, Oct. 28, starting at 8 p.m., the taproom of New Belgium will host their Halloween party. A $20 ticket includes one complimentary specialty release beer. The costume dance party will extend the taproom hours to midnight.

6. 3rd Annual Ratio Halloween Party: Ratio Beerworks

On Saturday, Oct. 28, Ratio looks to celebrate Halloween with special beers, costumes and live music from a “familiar pair of faux-90's icons,” according to their Facebook page. The beer list includes the return Darklands, a hoppy brown lager, Monster Mash firkin and more.

7. Annual Halloween Bash: Asher Brewing Company

Saturday, Oct. 28, Asher Brewing Co. gets spooky with two sets of music from the Brothers Casad. The event starts at 7 p.m. while the band plays at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m., with a costume contest in between. In addition to the live jams,  the party will include organic beers, prizes and food from the Cuban Fusion food truck.

8. Fourth Annual Halloween Party: Westminster Brewing Co.

Westminster Brewing Co, in collaboration with Whistling Hare Distillery, will host their Halloween bash on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 7:30 p.m. to midnight. The event features a costume contest, food from BajaX Food Truck and a recorded live music show from Big Paddy. Those looking for a scare can start the night at The Frightmare Compound haunted house across the street before making their way to Westminster Brewing Co. to experience special releases of beers and cocktails.

9. Pumpkin Carving at Living the Dream 

For those looking for a more low-key night, Living the Dream Brewing Co. will host a pumpkin carving event on Sunday, Oct. 29. For $15, participants will get a pumpkin, carving tools and one beer. Don’t worry about the mess, the brewery staff will clean up your mess when you’re done.

10. 6th Annual Great Storm Brewing Halloween Party

On Halloween night, Great Storm Brewing will release the special return of their Pompion Ale starting at noon. The golden ale, a recipe by Ben Franklin, is made with nearly 100 pounds of roasted pumpkins, according to the brewery’s website. The event will feature Halloween trivia, bingo and NaO’s foodbus. Everyone wearing a costume will get a free GSB sticker, and the best will receive a $25 bar tab.
