Esteemed brewers to be awarded for GABF efforts

The 35th Great American Beer Festival wraps up today with the brewers’ award ceremony, followed by a full day of tasting with two GABF sessions scheduled.

This year 800 breweries have graced the halls of the Colorado Convention Center. Roughly, 3,800 beers were sampled by 60,000 people.

During the week, five three-hour judging sessions have been hosted to determine the winners in 92 beer-style categories. Professional judges from around the world have “blind” tasted the entries in groups, providing the opportunity for brewers to win bronze, silver or gold medals. Winning beers are held to three tiers of standards:

-Gold: A world-class beer that accurately exemplifies the specified style, displaying the proper balance of taste, aroma and appearance.

-Silver: An excellent beer that may vary slightly from style parameters while maintaining close adherence to the style and displaying excellent taste, aroma and appearance.

-Bronze: A fine example of the style that may vary slightly from style parameters and/or have minor deviations in taste, aroma or appearance.
