Big Ass Tap Takeover at Parry’s Pizza to feature 40-plus Avery brews

By Jamie Mills

Avery Brewing Company will soon take over the taps at Parry’s Pizza locations across Colorado, releasing new and vintage pints and bottles to the public.

For the sixth year, the companies will collaborate on this event to bring a wide variety of Avery’s special beers to the Front Range and present them to the public during their “Big Ass Tap Takeover.”

Beginning at 11 a.m. on April 29, participating Parry’s locations will have 40-plus Avery beers on tap, plus numerous rare bottle handouts. In previous years, less than 30 beers were tapped.

Parry’s Pizza marketing director Keniey Sonley said planning for the soiree began last fall and he predicted this year’s event will be incredible. “We will have an abundance of great bottles this year, both vintage and newly released,” he said. “Lots of exciting stuff is coming out of Avery’s Barrels and Botanical Series and we will bring out some now famously retired brews.”

The Longmont location will feature live music with local artist Kenny Lee Young. Contests and games will be available at all participating locations. The first table to kill a keg at each participating location will get a special prize from the brewery. Prizes can include money or free beer. Throughout the day, Parry’s Pizza and Avery Brewing swag will be offered. Each time you buy an Avery beer you will get a ticket that will be used in drawings for prizes. The grand raffle prize at the end of the night is a VIP brewery tour at Avery Brewing in Boulder.

In addition to classic Avery brews like White Rascal, India Pale Ale and Ellie’s Brown Ale, some of the classic recipes will be altered to create new beers like Double Dry Hopped Hog Heaven or Double Dry Hopped Joe’s Pils.

Sonley said Parry’s partnership with the special projects team at Avery means the Taproom Only Series is made available at locations throughout the day. Some standout beers people will see are Tweak and Uncle Jacob’s Stout, however, you’d better arrive early. Other popular choices will be the dry hopped Maharaja and the dry hopped Joe’s - both classics with a twist.

Join the fun at one of the Front Range locations in Castle Rock, Greenwood Village, Highlands Ranch, Longmont and Northglenn. Avery Brewery reps will be at most locations to talk to customers and make toasts periodically throughout the event. There might be some special appearances but you will have to wait until the event to find out who.
