It's March 1, and that means two things: Stout Month is but a fuzzy memory, and now there will be “March Madness-style” brackets showing up for everything under the sun.
Our friends at The Pint Room in Littleton are wasting no time in getting things started with their Brewery Bracket challenge. For the next month, 16 local Colorado breweries will be squaring off against each other in a bracket-style tournament to determine the fans’ favorite and champion. "Matches" will take place at The Pint Room, where each brewery will have one beer on tap, with the winner being decided by the keg that kicks first.
It's a good, old-fashioned keg race, and you might find brewery reps on site during the matches with swag. Winners will move on to face each other until a champion is crowned in late March. Lance Furer, bar manager at The Pint Room, has indicated that the champion will receive a big tap takeover and a permanent line at The Pint Room. Yes, the stakes are high.
As for the competing beers, that's a secret, so as to not stack the deck. You'll have to show up at The Pint Room at 6 p.m. on the day of each “match” to find out what’s being poured. The first-round schedule is below, and in true March Madness fashion, team members here at Thirst Colorado have filled out their own brackets based on who they think will wind up victorious. Follow along on Facebook and at ThirstColorado.com for results and to see how our predictions hold up. Cheers!
