On Dec. 7, Denver’s Seedstock Brewery will release its Working Class Rye. Seedstock’s rye beer, made with more than 50 percent rye in the grain bill, is an old beer style that was popular before Reinheitsgebot dictated that beer was only to be brewed with barley. (A little history lesson: rye is a good cold-weather crop and rye beer was especially popular with the working class of Northern Germany, hence the name Working Class Rye). Working Class Rye has a spicy rye aroma with notes of cloves and a moderately creamy mouthfeel finishing dry and spicy. The 4.2-percent ABV Working Class Rye reminds drinkers of pumpernickel bread. Pairs well with an honest day’s work.
