Archetype Distillery officials are excited to finally open their doors in a repurposed, 102-year-old building that’s packed with history. Throughout the 1920s and 1930s, the South Broadway structure served as a premier spot to catch a film in Denver. By the ‘70s, the theater was home to the infamous Kitty’s South, an adult theater that occupied the corner until the mid-2000s.

The rich history of the building was considered during the renovation and build out. “We wanted to renovate this building by looking back a hundred years in order to look forward to the next hundred years,” said Wade Murphy, owner and developer of Archetype Distillery.

Michael Chapyak, president and master distiller of Archetype says that instead of just the booze, he wants a well-rounded experience for his customers. “It’s not enough to just make good spirits, we want to elevate the whole experience. We give a respectful nod to the traditional while using modern technology to make something truly special,” he said. “Our goal is to raise Denver’s spirits one drink at a time.”

Chapyak has plans for the two-story building to operate as a distillery, tasting room, event center and host gallery.

For spirits, Archetype will start with Archangel Vodka and Archrival Gin.

Simon Nicolian, internationally awarded Master Mixologist and Sommelier of Wine, Spirits and Sake has signed on with Archetype to perfect their tastings and cocktail recipes. “As we always strive for the perfect expression of the spirit in every serve, we want to ensure each offering is a pleasure to the palate,” he said.

Archetype’s grand opening will be at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 24, at 119 S. Broadway in Denver.
