After moving to Salida in the 1980s because of the incredible skiing, biking, kayaking, fishing and hiking, P.T. Wood has stayed put. Now, along with his brother, Lee, he distills whiskey, gin and liqueur at Wood’s High Mountain Distillery.
Reflecting the Colorado spirit, P.T. points out that no one will ever lose his or her job at the distillery for missing a day of work to go on a river trip. “But you might if you turn one down,” says the president of the Colorado Distillers’ Guild. But why have the brothers chosen to stay in Salida after all of these years? “We have amazing water here, a very cooperative local government and are surrounded by some amazing agriculture,” P.T. says.
