Twisted Pine teams with California brewery for Collab Fest Kölsch

Boulder’s Twisted Pine Brewing Co. teamed up with Pizza Port of Solana Beach, Calif., to brew up a Kölsch for the upcoming Collaboration Festival.

Collaboration Fest, held March 19 at Sports Authority Field at Mile High, has become a hotspot for beer aficionados. For the third year, brewers from across Colorado will team up with local, national and international breweries to create crafts that no one has tasted before.

Twisted Pine and Pizza Port have collaborated in the past, but this time they are aiming for a tasty Kölsch. The traditional, German-style lager, will compete with creations from 149 other breweries. Like many relationships, the brew had its roots in emails. Brewers Kay Witkiewicz of Twisted Pine and Adam Jester from Pizza Port tossed around several ideas before settling on a Kölsch. “We wanted to do a style that we hoped not many other breweries in Collaboration Fest would think of doing,” Witkiewicz said. “But mainly we wanted to do something that sounded good to us.”

The name of the beer was still up in the air on Feb. 5 when the brewers were hard at it in Boulder. However, a misunderstanding among the staff at Twisted Pine gave the early edge to a collaboration named “Courage.” Stay tuned to find out, or make sure and get tickets to the festival.
