Dry Dock releases Bligh’s Barleywine

It’s time to celebrate an eight-year tradition with a Dry Dock original – the 2016 Bligh’s Barleywine.

The brewery’s first barrel-aged offering will be tapped at the South Dock and shipped for distribution Wednesday, Dec. 14.

The malty “big beer” is one of Dry Dock’s most sought after releases. Heavy caramel coincides with oak and whiskey flavors derived from the barrel-aging process. Toffee, dark fruit and slight bitterness round out the complex flavors beneath the deck of this winter offering.

The barleywine pairs best with lighter foods that showcase savory and tart characteristics. Weighing in at 10.5 percent ABV, it’s certainly a great beer to bring to your monthly beer share. If you’re on your own, this beer is great for cooking as well as drinking. Another option, enjoy a viewing of Marlon Brando’s 1962 hit “Mutiny on the Bounty.” The beer received its name from the captain of the ship who famously was ousted along with his crew from the HMS Bounty in 1789.
